WSA Instructors

WSA instructors represent many of the Northwest's most recognized and respected wine professionals. Working in various aspects of the wine trade, these instructors bring a diversty of experiences, depth of knowledge, and an intense passion for wine to the classroom.

  • Mimi Martin, DWS — WSA Director and Instructor
  • Mimi Martin is co-owner/director of the Wine & Spirit Archive. She was formerly director of the undergraduate Food Studies Program at NYU and has been a food and wine educator for over 10 years. She holds the WSET Diploma in Wine and Spirits (DWS).
  • Adam Rhynard, DWS — WSA Director and Instructor
  • Adam Rhynard is co-owner/director of the Wine & Spirit Archive. He holds the WSET Diploma in Wine and Spirits (DWS).
  • Joel Butler, MW — Director of Education, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates
  • Joel is director of education at Ste. Michelle Wine Estates and is one of only a few American wine professionals to achieve the prestigious Master of Wine (MW) qualification.
  • Katherine Cole - Wine Columnist, Oregonian
  • Katherine Cole is a wine writer and columnist for several publications including the Oregonian and Mix Magazine.
  • Peter DeGarmo — Owner, Pastaworks
  • Peter is owner of Pastaworks and is founder of the Portland Slow Food Convivium.
  • Regina Daigneault, AC — Instructor/Program Coordinator, Northwest Wine Academy
  • Regina is the wine program coordinator at Northwest Wine Academy where she teaches a variety of courses. She holds the WSET Advanced Certificate (AC) and is currently completing the WSET Diploma in Wines and Spirits (DWS).
  • Cyril Frechier, DWS — Wine Director, Campagna Restaurant
  • Cyril is wine director at Campagna Restaurant and holds the WSET Diploma in Wines and Spirits (DWS). He is currently working towards the Master of Wine (MW) qualification.
  • Peter Gibson — Wine Consultant, Gibson Consulting
  • Peter is owner of the wine-consulting firm Gibson Consulting.
  • Lisa Shara Hall — Senior Editor, Wine Business Monthly
  • Lisa is senior editor of Wine Business Monthly and writes for a number of British wine publications. She is the first student from Oregon to sit for the prestigious Master of Wine (MW) qualification.

  • Dave is owner of Guy du Vin, a wine consulting business and online retail shop focused on unique and individualistic wines.
  • Darryl Joannides — Owner, Cork - A Bottle Shop
  • Darryl is owner of cork • a bottle shop and was formerly chef/owner of Assagio Restaurant.
  • Erica Landon — Wine Director, Ten-01
  • Erica is wine director and general manager of Ten-01 restaurant. She holds the Sommelier Diploma from both the International Sommelier Guild and the Court of Master Sommeliers.

  • Ewald Moseler — Importer and Distributor, Ewald Moseler Selections at Mitchell Wines
  • Ewald hails from the Mosel region of Germany and is the northwest’s foremost importer of German wines.
  • Chris Poulos, AC — Sales Representative, North Berkeley Imports
  • Chris is the Pacific Northwest sales representative for North Berkeley Imports. He holds the WSET Advanced Certificate (AC) and is currently completing the WSET Diploma in Wine and Spirits (DWS).
