Wine Tasting Tune-Up
Does your wine tasting technique need a reset? Join your fellow students in the Online Classroom for an instructor-led, topic-guided, blind tasting. Tastings focus on classic, testable wine styles and are organized in themes to guide students in their ability to identify characteristics such as quality level, varietal, winemaking techniques and climate of origin.
SESSION 3: Monday, November 2, 7pm to 8pm
SESSION 4: Monday, November 16, 7pm to 8pm
Tuition: $35 per tasting session (inclusive of 6 wine samples)
Does your tasting technique need a reset? Join a WSA instructor and other advanced students in the Online Classroom for an Advanced Wine Tasting Tune-Up. This course is open to any wine student at the Advanced level, but is ideal for:
— Current/recent WSET Level 3 students seeking to refine their tasting technique
— Former WSET Level 3 students seeking to tune up their palate (and possibly considering WSET Diploma)
— Current WSET Diploma students wanting to taste Diploma exam-similar wine styles in a formal setting (although please note this is not a Diploma prep class)
How does this work: Students will pick up mini-growlers of SIX wines between 5pm and 6pm the evening before class. Before meeting in the Online Classroom, students should write a full tasting note on each wine and answer guiding questions about the wines’ quality level, region of origin, grape variety and/or winemaking techniques (guiding questions will vary based on the tasting). We will use the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT) as our guide for these sessions.
What wines will we taste?: Each session students will taste six wines broken into two sets. Selected wines will be based on previous WSET Diploma Unit 3 exam wines and might include groupings that explore: a single variety across regions, quality level distinctions, winemaking variations or “mixed bag” identification. Wines samples each week will be approximately $150 in value.
SESSION 3: October 26, 7pm to 8pm
SESSION 4: November 9, 7pm to 8pm
Tuition: $35 per session (inclusive of 6 wine samples)
